Founded in 1947

Peacock Foundation, Inc.’s mission is to enhance and promote the good health and well-being of children and families in Miami-Dade County through grants to nonprofit organizations.

Peacock Foundation, Inc., has been a beacon of support throughout its distinguished history, funding hundreds of non-profit organizations in their missions to improve the lives of many in Miami-Dade County.

The Foundation’s grantmaking is a testament to the enduring legacy of Henry B. Peacock, Jr., reflecting his beliefs in the importance of having strong values and moral character, achieving self-sufficiency and, in turn, helping others, and being fiscally responsible stewards of philanthropic funds. The Foundation is committed to honoring Mr. Peacock’s life and impact through its work.

History

1927

Move to Miami

After graduating from high school, Mr. Peacock moved to Atlanta and began his business career, training as a pharmacist and real estate broker. In 1927, he moved to Miami during the land boom that followed the great 1926 hurricane that devastated South Florida.

Investing in Real Estate

Mr. Peacock began investing in Miami real estate and helping the needy in his community.

Establishment of Peacock Foundation, Inc.

According to its 1947 charter, Peacock Foundation, Inc. exists to do benevolent and charitable acts; to assist the needy and underprivileged persons, children, and families who are neglected; to expend funds for educational purposes; to make gifts or contributions to charitable organizations, trusts, funds or foundations; hospitals, wards or departments thereof; schools, churches, religious or civic organizations; orphanages or homes for the aged or infirm; and to further medical and scientific research.

Mr. Peacock established Peacock Foundation, Inc. to enhance and promote the good health and well-being of children, families, and underprivileged persons through contributions, gifts, and grants to nonprofit organizations.

Community Involvement and Contributions

Mr. Peacock made numerous contributions to the Foundation throughout his lifetime.

A resident of Miami’s Morningside neighborhood, he was instrumental in leading the Miami Heart Institute and the Miami Kiwanis Club. He was a founder of the Miami Kiwanis Youth Foundation and the Grand Jury Association.

He was a lifetime member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, Miami Command.

Mr. Peacock volunteered by feeding the hungry and providing hands-on support wherever his community needed him. He gave wholeheartedly without judgment for the good of the community.

Passing and Legacy

When Mr. Peacock passed away at the age of 91, he left behind a significant legacy. A substantial portion of his estate was endowed to the Peacock Foundation, Inc., ensuring that his philanthropic work would continue for generations to come.
